Why Law EnforcementI knew as a child I always wanted to be a Police Officer.  The town I grew up in was small and I never had much interaction with the Police Officers.  However, I watched them from afar and admired them and how they interacted with the community.  Most people grow up with professional athletes or celebrities as role models, but my role models were Police Officers.
First ArrestMy first day started out very quickly.  Dispatch advised there was a male assaulting a female on the street in the downtown area.  When my Field Training Officer and I arrived, the male ran from us on foot.  After a short foot pursuit we were able to apprehend him, but not without a fight.  As I was fighting with him, my FTO sprayed him with pepper spray.  Not only did he spray the bad guy, but I also got a healthy dose of it.  We were eventually able to take him into custody.  On our way to the jail, the suspect somehow managed to spit through the cage hitting my FTO in the ear.  I couldn’t help but laugh as it hung from his ear.  He didn’t say anything to the bad guy, but got his revenge by giving him an extra charge. All in a days work. I knew at that point, this was going to be the profession for me!
Best part of the jobThe best part about my job is the freedom.  I’m not stuck behind a desk and there is always something new and exciting around the corner.  I wake up every day excited about going to work.  There aren’t to many people that can say the same thing, which makes me feel lucky.
HobbiesMy main hobby is my family!  Not only do I enjoy going to work, but I love coming home!  My wife, son, and daughter mean the absolute world to me.  Oh, and my dogs! They are always there to welcome me home too. Other hobbies that I enjoy are hunting and riding motorcycles but having the time to do those things is few and far between these days.
Favorite QuoteI have two favorite quotes.  My grandfather told me when he was in the military the officers he respected the most were the “first ones out of the fox hole, but the last ones in the chow line”  I lived by this quote while I was in the Army.My second favorite quote is when people complain that their handcuffs are on to tight.  I always tell them, “They are new handcuffs, don’t worry they will loosen up.”
